Episode 103 – A History of Film Scores

Play episode

This week we celebrate the publication of Sean’s first book: The Sound of Cinema Hollywood Film Music from the Silents to the Present. As such we delve into the Frame to Frame archives and pull out some of the conversations about specifically the scores of some key films that also make an appearance in the book.

It also functions as a soundtrack lesson as we hear all about spotting, temp track and the origins of film music.

Timings for this week are below alongside the episode that the clip appears from – in case you want to go back and listen to the whole discussions.

Episode 83 – City Lights: (01:30)
Episode 27 – A Streetcar Named Desire (08:18)
Episode 57 – Psycho (14:41)

Episode 66 – The Empire Strikes Back (32:00)
